is our world falling apart or is it falling together?

October 6th, 2008 by Julie-Anne

In this exciting and challenging time in our world today it is very easy to buy into the negative story of all that is happening in our economy and in peoples lives.  Terrible things to talk about and focus on.  And the news is a great resource to confirm every fear we have.

I was thinking about this yesterday and wondered if I was trying to be to much of an upbeat and positive person when all the “facts” are clearly showing that this is not a good time and no amount of positive thinking is going to change it.  For me however  the next step in this line of thinking is anxiety and fear leading to slowly slipping down a slope into a black hole of paralyzing inaction.

The balance for me is accepting what is going on in the world without perpetuating the negativity that can come with that.  And with being a work in progress myself this can be challenging.

But I was lucky enough to catch myself before going down that steep descent and what entered my mind was the thought “What if we are not falling apart but are actually falling together?”  If I look back on my life I can see how everything needed to happen as it did to get to me where I needed to go.  Everything has happened to help me evolve on this spiritual path I am on.  And most often it has been the things that were uncomfortable or not getting what I wanted that helped me the most.  All in retrospect of course!

In looking at todays climate when it comes to opportunities to grow spiritually it seems the negative events  get our attention the most.  We get to connect and talk with strangers as we all feel in the same boat with the awfulness of the economy.  Would people connect so easily with a stranger who said “Oh aren’t we fortunate that the sun rises and sets for us each and every day.”  People would step aside and ignore this “weird” person.

I guess what I am saying and reminding myself of is that we have quality problems today.  That everything has a benefit and I can focus on what is not right and the negative or I can focus on what is right and the positive side of any situation.

What greater challenge than in this time to be more giving, to be kinder, to have more faith and to believe even more that each and everyone of us is completely taken care of right in this moment.

And no matter what something may look like on this plain it is for our greatest good on our spiritual path.

When I am focused on gratitude and what is positive I feel so much better and I know I am contributing in some small way to a solution by putting that kind of energy out there.  Imperfectly of course.

Enjoy
